COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology provides students with a strong foundation in psychological theory, scientific research, behavioral analysis, and criminal justice while preparing them for careers related to law, mental health, corrections, investigations, and social services. The program begins with a core psychology curriculum that develops knowledge in abnormal psychology, physiological psychology, personality theory, history and systems of psychology, behavioral statistics, and research methodology. Students gain scientific and analytical skills through courses such as research methods and statistics for behavioral sciences, while the capstone experience in applied experimental psychology allows them to integrate classroom knowledge with practical applications and advanced research skills. Supporting coursework in biology and sociology strengthens understanding of human behavior from biological and social perspectives. The forensic psychology concentration focuses on the relationship between psychology and the legal system, preparing students to understand criminal behavior, mental health issues within legal settings, violence, terrorism, police psychology, and forensic assessment. Required courses in forensic psychology and law, psychology, and the mental health system provide students with knowledge of criminal investigations, legal procedures, psychological evaluations, and ethical issues associated with forensic practice. Students may further specialize through electives focused on violence, criminal behavior, investigative psychology, or psychology and law seminars. The program also requires students to complete coursework across multiple breadth areas including clinical psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and cognitive or experimental psychology, ensuring a broad understanding of human development, multicultural behavior, assessment techniques, counseling, and social interaction. Fieldwork opportunities such as undergraduate research, internships, senior research projects, or honors theses provide practical experience and professional preparation in research, counseling, legal, or investigative environments. Additional criminal justice coursework introduces students to the criminal justice system and its historical development, helping bridge psychology with legal and correctional professions. With free electives allowing academic flexibility, graduates are prepared for careers in forensic psychology, victim advocacy, corrections, probation services, law enforcement support, social services, case management, mental health agencies, and research, while also building a strong academic foundation for graduate study in psychology, counseling, criminology, law, or forensic sciences.
