COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedicine program combines a comprehensive University Core Curriculum with specialized emergency medical training to prepare students for careers as highly skilled EMT-Paramedics and healthcare professionals. The curriculum begins with 40 credits of University Core courses that develop communication, scientific reasoning, ethics, cultural awareness, healthcare knowledge, and critical thinking skills. Students complete coursework in academic writing, communication, biology, public health, healthcare systems, bioethics, mathematics, history, social sciences, nutrition, and creative arts, along with additional Tier 2 competency courses that strengthen interdisciplinary learning. The major requirements focus heavily on advanced emergency medical education and practical clinical training. Students begin with foundational courses in emergency medical services systems and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training before progressing into advanced paramedicine coursework. The program includes extensive study in anatomy and physiology, patient examination, pharmacology, trauma care, toxicology, cardiology, pediatric emergencies, obstetric and gynecological emergencies, psychological and behavioral emergencies, environmental emergencies, and geriatric emergency care. Students also complete multiple levels of cardiology instruction and specialized coursework designed to develop clinical decision-making, patient assessment, and emergency treatment skills in high-pressure environments. A significant component of the curriculum involves hands-on clinical experiences through Paramedicine Clinical I, II, and III, as well as a final internship that allows students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world emergency healthcare settings under professional supervision. The Art of Paramedicine course further strengthens leadership, communication, and professional judgment essential for patient-centered care. Through this combination of theoretical learning, laboratory instruction, field experiences, and supervised clinical practice, students gain the competencies required for national certification and licensure as paramedics. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for careers in emergency medical services, hospitals, fire departments, rescue organizations, disaster response teams, and other healthcare environments while also providing a strong academic foundation for future studies in nursing, physician assistant programs, healthcare administration, or other advanced medical professions.
