COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at University of New Haven is an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for careers in both clinical and non-clinical healthcare fields, including medicine, healthcare administration, public health, clinical research, and allied health professions. The curriculum combines scientific knowledge, healthcare systems education, leadership development, and practical training to help students succeed in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry. Students study subjects such as epidemiology, healthcare law, healthcare leadership, health economics, cultural competence, research methods, bioethics, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, and physics. The program also emphasizes communication, critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and understanding the U.S. healthcare system. Students gain hands-on experience through internship opportunities and research-focused coursework, including Health Sciences Experience I and a senior capstone project that integrates classroom knowledge with real-world healthcare challenges. The degree offers flexibility through electives and optional concentrations in Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy, allowing students to tailor their studies toward graduate school or specialized healthcare careers. The University Core Curriculum strengthens students’ writing, communication, mathematics, cultural awareness, and scientific reasoning skills, while advanced courses focus on leadership, health policy, research design, and healthcare operations. Students may choose biology, microbiology, genetics, cell biology, communication, sociology, or psychology electives depending on their career goals. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in hospitals, clinics, healthcare organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and public health agencies, or for advanced study in medicine, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, physician assistant studies, nursing, healthcare administration, and related disciplines. The program provides a balanced education that combines science, healthcare knowledge, and professional development to prepare students for modern healthcare environments.
