COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity is structured to combine a strong university core curriculum with an intensive computing-focused major that prepares students for advanced technical and professional roles in the cybersecurity field. The University Core Curriculum builds foundational skills in communication, mathematics, science, and general education through courses such as English composition, communication principles, calculus-level mathematics, and laboratory sciences including physics, chemistry, biology, or environmental science, along with interdisciplinary courses like UNIV 1141 and technical communication in computing. Core Tier 2 strengthens computational and analytical skills through introductory programming in C, progression in mathematics including MATH 1117 and MATH 1118, and additional elective coursework that broadens academic development. The major curriculum establishes a comprehensive foundation in computing through courses such as introduction to computing, discrete mathematics, Java programming, intermediate C and C++ programming, databases and SQL, data structures and algorithms, operating systems, algorithm design and analysis, computer organization, networking technologies, systems programming, and programming language structure. Students also complete technical writing in computing, digital systems and logic design, and a required internship or research experience that provides practical industry exposure. Advanced learning is reinforced through a two-semester capstone software project that integrates all prior knowledge into a real-world application. The cybersecurity concentration allows students to specialize by selecting four upper-level courses in areas such as cyber forensics, reverse engineering, ethical hacking, cryptography, memory forensics, and assembly language programming, enabling deep expertise in offensive and defensive security techniques. Additional requirements include laboratory science electives, mathematics electives such as linear algebra or statistics, restricted electives in related technical or analytical fields, and free electives for academic flexibility. The program culminates with a professional enrichment course focused on engineering and applied science professionalism. Overall, this curriculum is designed to produce well-rounded computer science graduates with strong theoretical foundations, practical software development skills, and specialized cybersecurity expertise for roles in software engineering, digital forensics, ethical hacking, and security analysis.
