COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Management concentration within the Business Management B.S. program at the University of New Haven is designed to prepare students for managerial, operational, and analytical roles within the global sports industry. The program begins with a 41-credit University Core Curriculum that builds essential academic foundations in quantitative literacy, communication, critical thinking, and economics, including applied business math, business analytics, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. This is followed by a 30-credit Pompea College of Business core, which provides broad-based business training in accounting, finance, marketing, management, business law, ethics, organizational behavior, and a capstone experience that integrates functional business knowledge into strategic decision-making.Within the Business Management major (18 credits), students develop advanced understanding of human resource management, workforce diversity, multinational management, and contemporary business issues, along with additional management electives selected in consultation with an advisor. The Sport Management concentration (12 credits) then applies business principles directly to the sports industry. Students begin with foundational courses such as Management of Sport Industries and Governance and Legal Aspects of Sport, which introduce the structure, regulation, and organizational dynamics of the sports sector. They then select additional specialized courses from a broad menu that includes sport marketing, revenue generation, facility management, digital communication, sponsorship strategy, analytics, financial management in sports, media relations, event execution, and athletic administration. This structure allows students to tailor their learning toward areas such as professional sports organizations, collegiate athletics, event management, or sports marketing and analytics. The program is completed with 20 credits of free electives, providing flexibility for complementary study in business, communications, or related fields. Overall, the concentration integrates general management education with sport-specific business expertise, preparing graduates for careers in sports organizations, event management companies, athletic departments, sponsorship firms, and media or entertainment-related industries.
