COURSE CURRICULUM

The Esport Management concentration within the Business Management B.S. program at the University of New Haven is structured around a standard business foundation combined with a focused sequence of esports and digital gaming industry courses. All students first complete the 41-credit University Core Curriculum, which builds essential skills in quantitative literacy, critical thinking, communication, and social awareness through courses such as applied business math, business analytics, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. This is followed by a 30-credit Pompea College of Business core that develops broad managerial competencies in financial accounting, managerial accounting, business analytics, finance, marketing, business law, organizational behavior, ethics, and a capstone experience that integrates business knowledge into strategic decision-making.The Business Management major component consists of 18 credits and strengthens leadership and organizational expertise through courses in human resources management, workforce diversity, multinational management, and contemporary business issues, along with additional management electives chosen in consultation with an advisor. The Esport Management concentration itself comprises 21 credits and provides specialized preparation for leadership roles in the gaming and esports industry. It begins with foundational courses such as Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Digital Game Management, and Introduction to Esport Management, which introduce the structure, culture, and business models of the esports ecosystem. Students then progress into more advanced topics including Governance and Regulatory Practices in Digital Gaming and Esport, Financial and Revenue Strategies in Esport, and Esport Management Operations, which focus on the commercial, legal, and operational dimensions of the industry. This combination equips students to understand how esports organizations are managed, how revenue streams are developed, and how competitive gaming events are structured and sustained. The program concludes with 11 credits of free electives, allowing students to broaden their expertise or specialize further in related business areas such as marketing, entrepreneurship, or media management. Overall, the curriculum is designed to produce graduates who can apply general business principles to the fast-evolving esports industry, with skills in management, strategy, operations, and industry-specific governance.
