COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence at University of New Haven is designed to prepare students with advanced technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills needed for careers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and intelligent systems development. The program emphasizes computational thinking, ethical AI development, data analysis, and human-centered technology design while preparing students to build, deploy, and evaluate intelligent systems responsibly. By the end of the program, students are expected to apply computational thinking to solve complex problems, develop and use AI systems and applications, design user-focused intelligent technologies, evaluate ethical and security concerns related to AI tools, analyze data effectively for AI applications, and collaborate successfully in team-based environments. The curriculum combines a broad University Core Curriculum with specialized technical coursework. Core studies include academic writing, communication, calculus, science laboratory courses, professional computing ethics, and foundational courses exploring the applications and societal impact of artificial intelligence. Students also complete mathematics-focused coursework such as Calculus I, Calculus II, probability and statistics, discrete mathematics, and linear algebra, providing the mathematical foundation necessary for machine learning and advanced computing. The major curriculum introduces students to programming, computing systems, databases, software engineering, networking technologies, cloud systems, and data engineering. Students gain expertise in Python programming, object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing, optimization techniques, and AI application development. Courses also emphasize DevOps practices, technical writing, and professional communication to prepare students for industry collaboration and software deployment. Hands-on learning is an important part of the program, with students completing an AI internship and a two-part capstone project that allows them to apply technical knowledge to real-world AI challenges. Students further customize their education through advanced electives in areas such as Human-AI Interaction, Software Quality Assurance, Autonomous Vehicles, data science, and higher-level AI or computer science topics. The curriculum combines technical rigor, ethical awareness, innovation, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers as AI engineers, machine learning specialists, data scientists, NLP developers, cloud and AI systems professionals, and future technology leaders in a rapidly evolving global industry.
