COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Psychology is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation in psychological science while preparing them for careers or graduate study related to mental health, counseling, clinical services, and human behavior. The program combines scientific research, theoretical knowledge, practical application, and experiential learning to help students understand psychological disorders, personality, cognition, development, and therapeutic approaches. Students complete 25 credits of required psychology core courses that introduce major psychological concepts and research methods through subjects such as introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, physiological psychology, personality theory, history and systems of psychology, statistics for behavioral sciences, research methods, and a capstone experience in applied experimental psychology. These courses help students develop analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, and a deeper understanding of mental processes and behavior. Students also complete required non-psychology coursework in biology with laboratory experience and sociology to strengthen their understanding of biological and social influences on human behavior. The Clinical Psychology concentration includes specialized coursework in case management, psychological testing and assessment, behavioral therapies, and clinical or counseling psychology, allowing students to explore mental health treatment, therapeutic techniques, patient evaluation, and counseling practices in greater depth. In addition to clinical studies, students complete breadth area courses in cognitive and experimental psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and community psychology. These courses may include topics such as cognitive psychology, learning, language and reading, child or adolescent development, multicultural psychology, social psychology, organizational behavior, and human sexuality. The program also emphasizes experiential learning through fieldwork opportunities such as undergraduate research, internships with seminars, senior research projects, or honors thesis work, enabling students to apply classroom knowledge in professional and research settings. Students further benefit from 33 credits of free electives, allowing flexibility to pursue additional interests or complementary subjects. Overall, the program prepares graduates with strong research, communication, critical thinking, and clinical knowledge for careers in mental health services, social work, human services, healthcare, education, and community support roles, while also providing excellent preparation for graduate programs in psychology, counseling, clinical mental health, or related behavioral science fields.
