COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at University of New Haven is a highly flexible and customizable degree program designed for students who want to combine multiple academic interests into a unified educational pathway. The program requires the completion of 121 total credits, including 40 credits of University Core Curriculum courses, 39 credits focused on interdisciplinary study and capstone requirements, and 42 elective credits selected with advisor guidance. Unlike traditional majors centered on a single discipline, this program encourages students to build an individualized academic experience by integrating coursework from at least two major subject areas, such as biology and art, psychology and criminal justice, business and communication, or technology and design. Students may combine two approved 18-credit minors or pair one approved minor with a self-designed 18-credit concentration that must be approved by the Interdisciplinary Studies Director. This structure allows students to tailor their education around specific career goals, emerging industries, or unique intellectual interests that may not fit within a conventional major. The University Core Curriculum is broadly flexible, although students are specifically required to complete INTS 1100 Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies and INTS 2200 Social Impact through Engagement and Collaboration, courses that strengthen interdisciplinary thinking, collaboration, civic engagement, and problem-solving skills. The program concludes with INTS 4400 Capstone in Interdisciplinary Studies, a culminating academic experience where students integrate knowledge from their chosen disciplines into a major research, creative, or applied project. Extensive elective opportunities further allow students to deepen expertise or explore additional academic areas.
