ABOUT UNIVERSITY

University of New Haven was founded in 1920 as New Haven Junior College, originally operating as a division of Northeastern University. During its early years, the institution shared buildings, laboratories, and faculty with Yale University for nearly four decades, helping establish a strong academic foundation and reputation in higher education. Over time, the university expanded significantly and developed into an independent institution offering a broad range of academic opportunities. Today, the University of New Haven provides 109 undergraduate programs and 116 graduate programs across diverse disciplines including business, engineering, criminal justice, health sciences, arts, and technology. The university is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education, previously known as the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and it has maintained continuous accreditation since 1948, reflecting its commitment to educational quality and institutional excellence. The institution has also gained recognition for the strength of its business education. In 2015, the College of Business earned accreditation from AACSB International, one of the most respected business accreditation organizations in the world, and this accreditation was renewed through the 2024–2025 academic year, demonstrating the college’s ongoing academic standards and professional relevance. The university continues to strengthen its national and regional reputation through innovation, career-focused education, and student success initiatives. In the 2026 rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, the University of New Haven was ranked No. 76 among Regional Universities North, highlighting its academic progress, institutional growth, and increasing recognition as a respected university in the northeastern United States.
