COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNH requires a minimum of 31 graduate credits and is designed to combine advanced coursework with focused research training. Students must complete at least 20 credit hours of graduate-level coursework, including a minimum of 9 credits at the 900 level, ensuring strong exposure to advanced engineering concepts. Core components of the program include ECE 900 Research and Development From Concept to Communication, ECE 899 Master’s Thesis, and ECE 910 Graduate Seminar, which collectively emphasize research development, technical communication, and scholarly engagement. In addition to these requirements, students may include up to 12 credits from approved non-ECE 800-level courses, provided they are petitioned and approved by the ECE Graduate Committee, allowing flexibility to incorporate interdisciplinary learning. The program also offers structured flexibility in course selection to support individualized academic and research goals. Students may, under advisor approval, take up to two non-ECE 900-level courses without petition, enabling them to explore related fields such as mathematics, computer science, or other engineering disciplines. However, at least two 900-level courses within the ECE department are required, and these must not include independent study courses. If students wish to take additional non-ECE courses beyond the allowed limit, formal approval from the Graduate Committee is required before registration. The program also permits the transfer of previously earned graduate credits—up to 12 UNH credits or 8 non-UNH credits—if they were completed before admission and meet program standards.Overall, the M.S. ECE program is structured to ensure students develop both depth and flexibility, combining rigorous graduate coursework with thesis-based research. It prepares graduates for advanced technical roles in industry, research institutions, and further doctoral study by emphasizing both specialization and interdisciplinary competence.
