COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Economics at UNH requires a minimum of 32 credit hours of coursework along with a capstone experience, combining rigorous core training with flexible pathways tailored to either industry or academic career goals. All students begin with three foundational core courses that build strong quantitative and theoretical skills: ECON 825 Mathematical Economics, ECON 926 Econometrics I, and ECON 976 Microeconomics I, each providing essential tools for economic modeling, data analysis, and advanced economic reasoning. After completing the core, students choose between an Industry Track, an Academic Track, or a Mixed Track depending on their career objectives. The Industry Track emphasizes applied and practical skills for professional roles and includes courses such as DS 801 Business Intelligence, DS 804 Exploration and Communication of Data, ECON 871 Macroeconomic Consulting, ECON 875 Strategy Analysis: Games and Auctions, and either ECON 865 Machine Learning for Economics or ECON 927 Econometrics II, along with an elective chosen from applied fields such as finance, marketing analytics, forecasting, or econometrics. This track culminates in ECON 890 Analytical Economics in Practice, a capstone experience involving applied economic problem-solving. The Academic Track is designed for students planning to pursue Ph.D. studies and includes advanced theory and research-focused courses such as ECON 927 Econometrics II, ECON 972 Macroeconomics I, ECON 973 Macroeconomics II, ECON 977 Microeconomics II, and ECON 988 Graduate Economics Seminar, with the capstone requirement fulfilled through a comprehensive exam rather than a project. The Mixed Track allows students to combine elements of both paths, offering flexibility while still maintaining advanced coursework requirements. Across all tracks, students are encouraged to build strong quantitative and analytical skills while progressing through a structured but customizable curriculum. Overall, the program blends economic theory, econometrics, data science, and applied analysis to prepare graduates for careers in consulting, finance, policy, analytics, and advanced academic research.
