COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNH is a professionally oriented graduate program designed to provide advanced technical training while emphasizing applied engineering communication and industry-relevant skills. To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework, with at least 24 credits coming from ECE or closely related technical disciplines approved by an academic advisor. Of these, at least 12 credits must be at the 900-level, ensuring a strong foundation in advanced graduate-level engineering concepts. Students may also take approved courses outside the ECE department, including interdisciplinary areas that support their career goals. In addition to coursework, students are required to participate in at least 50% of departmental seminar presentations, with attendance monitored by their advisor.A key feature of the program is its emphasis on concluding professional experiences rather than a traditional research thesis. Instead, students must complete a technical paper and two oral technical presentations. The technical paper must demonstrate the student’s ability to clearly and deeply explain a contemporary engineering topic or development and must be authored solely by the student, although prior work from courses, independent studies, or published conference/journal papers may be used if they meet requirements. Papers accepted for peer-reviewed conferences or journals automatically satisfy this requirement. The two required presentations ensure that students develop strong communication skills in professional settings and may include course presentations, guest lectures, departmental seminars, industry presentations, or conference talks. Each presentation must be distinct, and students must obtain advisor approval for each experience.Unlike research-based degrees, the M.Eng. program typically does not include TA/RA funding opportunities. Overall, the program is designed for students seeking advanced engineering expertise combined with strong technical communication skills, preparing them for careers in industry, applied engineering roles, and professional practice.
