COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Eng in Bioengineering is a 30-credit professional graduate program designed to provide advanced training at the intersection of engineering, biology, and data-driven problem solving, preparing students for careers in biotechnology, biomedical industries, and applied research settings. The program begins with core required coursework, including a graduate seminar that supports professional development, scientific communication, and exposure to current research in the field, as well as Principles of Bioengineering, which provides a foundational understanding of how engineering principles are applied to biological systems. Beyond the core courses, students build a highly individualized program of study through a flexible elective structure that allows them to tailor their education to specific interests and career goals. Students select additional CHBE courses to deepen their technical expertise in areas such as biochemical processes, biomedical systems, or chemical engineering applications in biology. They also complete a mathematics or data science course to strengthen quantitative and computational skills essential for modeling, analysis, and modern engineering practice, along with a life science course to reinforce biological knowledge relevant to engineering applications. The remaining credits are fulfilled through additional electives chosen in consultation with an advisor, which may include advanced engineering, science, or interdisciplinary courses that support the student’s professional objectives. This flexible structure allows students to design a program aligned with specialized career paths such as biomedical device development, tissue engineering, biosensors, or pharmaceutical and bioprocess industries.
