COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing program requires students to complete University Discovery Program requirements along with major-specific coursework designed to build strong clinical, scientific, and professional skills in healthcare. Students must maintain a minimum grade of C in required Discovery and nursing major courses and sustain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 throughout the program. The curriculum includes foundational courses in biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, human development, psychology, statistics, and writing, which provide essential knowledge for understanding human health and disease. Core nursing courses focus on developing professional competencies such as evidence-based practice, pathopharmacology, nursing theory, and clinical decision-making. Advanced courses cover adult acute and chronic care, pediatric and family nursing, mental health nursing, reproductive health, population health, and leadership in healthcare systems, preparing students for diverse roles in hospitals, clinics, and community health settings. Clinical learning is integrated throughout the program, with hands-on experience in multiple nursing practice courses where students apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare environments. The program emphasizes both technical skills and holistic patient care, ensuring graduates are prepared to respond to complex patient needs across different populations and healthcare systems. In addition to the standard degree path, an Honors-in-Major option is available for high-achieving students who maintain strong academic performance and are selected for advanced study. This honors track involves additional coursework, including honors seminars and a thesis or research project, which may involve clinical research or quality improvement initiatives approved by university or school committees. Students in the honors program complete a scholarly project, present their findings at research conferences, and contribute to academic knowledge in nursing. Overall, the program prepares students for professional nursing practice, leadership roles, and potential graduate study by combining scientific education, clinical training, research experience, and a strong foundation in patient-centered care.
