COURSE CURRICULUM
The Tourism and Event Management option in the Recreation Management and Policy program at University of New Hampshire prepares students for careers in tourism, hospitality, festivals, event planning, recreation services, destination marketing, resorts, and commercial recreation industries. Core courses include RMP 490 Recreation & Tourism in Society, RMP 501 Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice for Recreation Services, RMP 557 Program and Event Design, RMP 563 Recreation Management and Policy Practicum, RMP 654 Professional Development and Ethics, RMP 661 Organizational Leadership in Recreation Services, and RMP 764 Internship (Capstone). Students must complete an internship of 8 or 12 credits for hands-on professional training.Specialized Tourism and Event Management courses include TOUR 400 Introduction to Tourism, RMP 559 Tourism and Event Marketing, RMP 680 Festival and Community Event Planning or HMGT 661 Event Design, Planning, and Management, RMP 663 Financial Management in Recreation Services, RMP 724 Research, Evaluation, and Data-Driven Decisions, and RMP 772 Law and Public Policy in Leisure Services. Students also choose electives such as Tourism and Global Understanding, Ski Industry Management, Venue Management, Entrepreneurial Recreation, Resort Development, International Food and Culture, Revenue Management, Casino Management, Community Development, and Green Real Estate. The program combines business, tourism, recreation, hospitality, and public policy knowledge, making it suitable for students interested in creative management careers involving travel, entertainment, events, and guest experiences.
