COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program at University of New Hampshire provides an interdisciplinary education focused on healthcare systems, public policy, epidemiology, environmental health, communication, and data-driven decision-making. Students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and earn a minimum grade of C in all required and prerequisite courses. The curriculum begins with core public health foundations including United States Health Care Systems, Introduction to Public Health, Epidemiology and Community Medicine, Statistics, Health Economics, Human Behavior and Public Health, Environmental Health, Law and Ethics in Healthcare, Health Policy, and Translation of Health Data. These courses train students to understand disease prevention, healthcare systems, health disparities, public policy, ethics, and community health management. The program is highly flexible and allows students to specialize through interdisciplinary electives in multiple focus areas. Policy Development courses explore community development, social justice, environmental policy, welfare systems, and public advocacy. Assurance electives emphasize sustainability, healthcare management, environmental justice, aging, diversity, homelessness, and wellness promotion. Students also develop technical GIS mapping skills through geographic information systems courses and research or analytical abilities through methods-based coursework in data analysis and social research. Communication electives strengthen skills in public dialogue, healthcare marketing, deliberation, and public communication strategies. The program concludes with the HMP 749 Public Health Capstone, where students apply their learning to real public health challenges through hands-on integrative projects. Graduates are prepared for careers in hospitals, public health agencies, nonprofit organizations, healthcare administration, community outreach, environmental health, policy analysis, health communication, and epidemiology, while also gaining strong preparation for graduate studies in public health, medicine, healthcare administration, social work, and related health sciences.
