COURSE CURRICULUM
The Philosophy of Business, Innovation, and Technology option within the UNH Philosophy Program combines the traditional philosophy major with specialized study of ethics, technology, law, economics, and social systems. Students complete the standard philosophy major requirements while also taking additional courses focused on the relationship between innovation, markets, science, and human well-being. The major requires a minimum of ten philosophy courses totaling 40 credits, with students maintaining at least a 2.00 GPA in philosophy coursework and earning a minimum grade of C- in all major courses. Core studies include logic, ethics, ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, and workshop-based analytical writing and discussion courses, which build strong reasoning, communication, and critical thinking skills. Students also complete elective philosophy courses and advanced 700-level seminars that serve as the capstone experience and emphasize in-depth research, discussion, and philosophical analysis. The specialized Business, Innovation, and Technology option requires four additional philosophy courses selected from subjects such as critical thinking, business ethics, social and political philosophy, philosophy of law, environmental ethics, neuroscience and philosophy, artificial intelligence, technology and society, race and social justice, and medicine and ethics. These courses encourage students to examine how emerging technologies, business systems, and scientific developments affect society, morality, and public policy. Students analyze complex contemporary issues involving artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, law, economics, and human identity while learning how to evaluate ethical and social consequences of innovation. The program also offers flexibility because many philosophy courses can simultaneously satisfy university Discovery requirements in areas such as humanities, quantitative reasoning, world cultures, fine arts, and environment and society. Overall, this interdisciplinary option prepares students for careers or graduate study in business, law, technology, ethics, consulting, policy, research, and other professional fields where analytical reasoning, ethical judgment, and understanding of technological change are highly valuable.
