COURSE CURRICULUM
The Nutrition major at the UNH Nutrition Program is designed to prepare students for careers in health, wellness, clinical nutrition, and advanced scientific study by combining foundational science education with specialized nutrition coursework. Students typically take 16–18 credits per semester and complete a structured mix of Discovery Program requirements, electives, core nutrition courses, and option-specific studies depending on their chosen track such as dietetics, nutrition and wellness, or nutritional sciences. The program begins with key nutrition courses including Nutrition in Health and Well-Being, which introduces the relationship between diet and health, Professional Perspectives on Nutrition, which explores career paths and ethical practices in the field, Nutritional Assessment, which focuses on evaluating dietary intake and health status, and Life Cycle Nutrition, which examines nutritional needs across different stages of life. Alongside these, students complete foundational science courses such as Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, which provide essential knowledge of body systems and how they interact with nutrients. To strengthen understanding of human behavior and society, students also take Introductory Sociology or Introduction to Psychology, helping them understand social and psychological factors that influence eating habits and health choices. In addition, a statistics course is required, with options including applied biostatistics, health-related statistics, psychology statistics, or general statistics, ensuring students develop the ability to analyze and interpret health data. This combination of biology, physiology, social science, and quantitative skills equips students with a strong interdisciplinary background. Overall, the program builds a scientific and practical understanding of nutrition, preparing graduates for careers in healthcare, public health, fitness and wellness industries, research, or further professional education in medicine, dietetics, and other health-related fields.
