COURSE CURRICULUM

The Information Technology (IT) major is designed to prepare students for professional roles in computing and organizational technology environments, focusing on applying existing computing systems to solve real-world information needs. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher in required IT and computer science courses, and specific foundational courses such as CS 415, CS 417, IT 403, IT 505, and IT 520 must be completed with a minimum grade of C- or better. The curriculum includes core computing subjects such as programming, software engineering, cybersecurity, internet technologies, databases, systems administration, and human-computer interaction, along with a senior project sequence and an internship experience to provide applied learning. Students also complete supporting mathematics coursework including calculus and statistical analysis, as well as science requirements in both biological and physical sciences. A distinctive feature of the program is its requirement that students complete a complementary domain of study outside IT, typically through a minor, second major, or dual degree, ensuring graduates can apply technical skills in a broader organizational context. Electives allow specialization in areas such as web development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data science, and network technology. The program emphasizes communication, teamwork, ethics, and project management, preparing graduates for careers such as system administrators, network engineers, database developers, and IT project managers. Through structured coursework and experiential learning, students develop both technical expertise and leadership skills needed for evolving technology careers in industry and government.
