COURSE CURRICULUM

The Engineering Physics (BSEP) major requires students to complete a rigorous set of core and track-specific courses while maintaining a minimum grade of C in all 400- and 500-level core courses and an overall GPA of at least 2.33 in these courses to remain in the program. The core curriculum builds a strong interdisciplinary foundation across chemistry, computing, mathematics, and physics, including courses in general chemistry, engineering computing or programming, calculus, differential equations, multidimensional calculus or linear algebra, and a comprehensive sequence of physics courses covering mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics. Students also complete advanced physics topics such as classical mechanics and mathematical physics, along with a senior capstone design project that integrates knowledge and practical skills. Beyond the core, students choose a specialization track such as Aerospace or Engineering Research, each with its own required courses and a wide range of electives. The Aerospace track includes additional coursework in circuits, electronics, fluid dynamics, and satellite systems, along with electives spanning areas like control systems, heat transfer, computational methods, and astrophysics. The Engineering Research track focuses more on advanced electronics, systems, and experimental physics, with electives that include machine learning, materials science, optics, quantum mechanics, and other advanced scientific and engineering topics. Both tracks require students to select multiple upper-level electives, allowing them to tailor their studies according to career goals, whether in industry or research. Overall, the program combines deep theoretical knowledge with applied engineering skills and flexibility, preparing students for careers in engineering, scientific research, or graduate study in physics and related fields.
