COURSE CURRICULUM
The Biomedical Engineering option within the Electrical Engineering program requires students to complete a rigorous curriculum of approximately 129 credits while maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science (CS) courses, with continuation in the major at risk if this standard is not met over multiple semesters unless approved by petition. The program builds a strong engineering foundation through core courses in programming, computer science, circuits, digital systems, electronic design, computer organization, engineering analysis, electromagnetics, and signals and systems, along with advanced electronic design and random processes, ensuring students develop both theoretical understanding and practical engineering skills. Supporting coursework in mathematics, including calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra, as well as physics, provides the analytical framework necessary for engineering problem solving, while an economics course introduces broader contextual understanding. The biomedical focus is established through additional required courses such as human anatomy and physiology, digital image processing, biomedical instrumentation, and biomedical engineering or biomaterials, which integrate engineering principles with biological and medical sciences. Students also complete a senior capstone project sequence, where they apply interdisciplinary knowledge to design and implement real-world engineering solutions, often related to healthcare technologies. A professional elective allows for further specialization, while general education or Discovery Program requirements ensure a well-rounded academic experience. Overall, the program combines core electrical engineering training with specialized biomedical coursework, preparing students for careers in medical device development, healthcare technology, and related industries, as well as for advanced study in biomedical engineering or related fields.
