COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical and Veterinary Sciences (MVS) option is a specialized track within biomedical science that integrates human medicine, veterinary science, and environmental health, following the One Health approach, which recognizes that the health of people, animals, and ecosystems is interconnected; this program is academically rigorous and designed for students aiming for medical school, veterinary school, graduate research, or careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or public health, and it requires students to complete a structured curriculum consisting of foundation courses, bioscience core courses, specialized core subjects, electives, and a capstone experience, with a minimum grade of C- in all major-related courses; the foundation courses build a strong base in chemistry (general and organic), physics, calculus, and statistics, ensuring students understand the scientific principles underlying biological systems, while the bioscience core focuses on key life science areas such as molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry, providing essential knowledge about how living organisms function at cellular and molecular levels; the MVS core courses then emphasize anatomy and physiology (human or animal options) along with professional development, helping students connect theoretical knowledge to real-world healthcare and research settings; a major strength of this program is its flexibility through electives, where students must take six courses divided into three key areas—biomedical systems (such as endocrinology or pharmacology), pathobiology and disease (including immunology, toxicology, and infectious diseases), and health and environmental issues (like epidemiology, medical anthropology, and public health), allowing students to tailor their education toward specific interests; finally, the capstone experience, completed in the senior year, integrates all prior learning through research, advanced coursework, or hands-on projects, ensuring graduates develop critical thinking, laboratory, and analytical skills, making them highly prepared for advanced education or professional roles in science and healthcare fields.
