COURSE CURRICULUM

The English major with Law 3+3 alignment requires students to complete at least 40 credits with a minimum grade of C- in each course and maintain an overall GPA of 2.0, while following specific academic policies such as limiting major credit to only one online course, prohibiting certain courses like ENGL 401, ENGL 415, ENGL 444, ENGL 620, and ENGL 788 from counting toward the major, and requiring at least six courses to be taken at the advanced 600 level or higher to ensure depth of study, with one course allowed to satisfy a Discovery requirement; the program begins with the foundational ENGL 419 course, which builds essential analytical reading skills, followed by two 500-level courses selected from a broad range including linguistics, creative writing, journalism, and diverse literature topics, allowing students to explore multiple aspects of English studies; students must then complete two courses in pre-1800 literature and two in post-1800 literature, ensuring strong historical coverage from early texts like medieval and Renaissance works to modern and contemporary literature, while also completing one course focused on community and cultures to engage with themes such as race, identity, and social perspectives; flexibility is maintained through the option to use special topics courses to fulfill certain requirements when appropriate, along with one additional elective at the 500, 600, or 700 level to further individual interests; the program culminates in a capstone experience consisting of a 700-level English course, which must be completed with at least a C grade and declared in advance, integrating knowledge through advanced research and critical analysis; overall, the curriculum balances structured literary study with flexible course selection, enabling students to develop strong reading, writing, and analytical skills while preparing for accelerated transition into legal studies within the 3+3 pathway.
