COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics requires students to complete a structured set of courses totaling about 59 credits within the major, with at least eleven economics courses plus ADMN 510, and a minimum grade of C- in each Paul College major course along with an overall average of 2.0 or higher in major coursework. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, business computing, and business analytics and statistics, which build essential quantitative and analytical skills. Students then progress to intermediate-level courses in microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, along with business and economic history and predictive modeling, where they apply data-driven techniques to economic problems. Mathematics preparation is supported through courses like mathematics for business applications or calculus for social sciences, ensuring students develop the necessary quantitative background. The program also includes professional and experiential learning components such as first-year innovation and research experiences, career-focused development courses, and analytical intelligence topics that enhance practical skills and career readiness. A capstone course, the Senior Economics Seminar, allows students to integrate and apply their knowledge to advanced economic analysis and real-world issues. In addition, students must select four elective courses from a wide range of options, including areas such as international economics, money and banking, labor economics, econometrics, game theory, machine learning, economics of health, climate change, and artificial intelligence, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests or career goals. Overall, the program combines core economic theory, quantitative analysis, applied data skills, and flexibility in electives to prepare students for diverse careers in business, government, research, and further academic study.
