COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Policy and Sustainability option within the B.A. in Economics requires students to complete the standard economics major curriculum of approximately 59 credits, including eleven economics courses and ADMN 510, with a minimum grade of C- in each major course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 in the major. The core curriculum includes foundational and analytical courses such as macroeconomics and microeconomics, business analytics and statistics, predictive modeling, intermediate economic theory, and mathematics for business or social sciences, along with professional development courses and a capstone Senior Economics Seminar where students apply their knowledge to real-world economic issues. In addition to these requirements, students pursuing the Public Policy and Sustainability option must strategically select their economics electives to focus on policy-related topics. Specifically, they must complete at least two courses from areas such as law and economics, labor economics, health economics, or the economics of climate change, which provide insight into major social and environmental challenges. A final course is chosen either from the main elective list or from approved interdisciplinary options such as natural resource economics, environmental economics, health policy, sustainability studies, or specialized public economics topics, sometimes requiring departmental approval. This structure allows students to integrate economic theory with policy analysis and sustainability concepts while maintaining flexibility in course selection. Overall, the program combines core economic training, quantitative and data analysis skills, and targeted policy-focused coursework, preparing students for careers in government, research organizations, consulting firms, and non-profit sectors, as well as for advanced study in economics, public policy, or related fields.
