COURSE CURRICULUM

Computer science majors are required to maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in all required computer science, mathematics, and computer engineering courses to remain in good standing and graduate, and if their GPA in these areas falls below 2.0 at any time, including the first semester, they may be restricted from continuing in the major. Key foundational courses such as CS 415, CS 416, CS 420, CS 515, CS 520, and IT 403 must be completed with a grade of C- or higher, and students are expected to make steady academic progress with only limited course repetition allowed, specifically up to two repeats across required courses, after which they may be removed from the program, though they may petition for reinstatement after a one-year absence. Transfer students must also meet the same academic standards, including minimum grades and a 2.0 GPA across all relevant university coursework. The curriculum includes core computer science subjects such as programming, algorithms, systems, operating systems, cybersecurity, software security, and data structures, along with a senior project or thesis, and students also select an elective in areas like systems programming, cloud computing, or networking to gain specialization. Mathematics requirements include calculus and statistics or probability, along with additional supporting courses in mathematical and computational methods, while science requirements include both biological and physical science courses with laboratory components. Students must also complete general education or discovery requirements not already covered in major coursework, and overall the program requires about 98 credits, balancing strong technical foundations with applied systems knowledge, mathematical skills, and flexibility for focused study.
