COURSE CURRICULUM

Computer science majors are required to maintain strong academic performance in core computer science, mathematics, and computer engineering courses, with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in these areas as a condition for graduation. If a student’s cumulative GPA in these required courses falls below 2.0 at any point, including the first semester, continuation in the major may be restricted. Key foundational courses such as CS 415, CS 416, CS 420, CS 515, CS 520, and IT 403 must be completed with a grade of C- or higher to satisfy degree requirements. Students are expected to make steady progress toward completing the program and are allowed only limited course repeats, specifically two total repeats across these critical courses, after which they may be removed from the program. However, students may petition for reinstatement after a one-year break. Transfer students must also meet the same academic standards, including minimum grades and a 2.0 GPA in all applicable university coursework.The curriculum includes a structured set of core computer science courses that build a strong foundation in programming, software engineering, algorithms, computer systems, cybersecurity, and professional communication. Students complete courses such as CS 400, CS 415, CS 416, CS 420, CS 515, CS 518, CS 520, CS 527, and a culminating senior project or thesis through CS 791/792 or CS 799. In addition, students select four computer science electives from advanced topics such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, neural networks, robotics, algorithms, natural language processing, computer vision, and data science applications, allowing them to specialize in modern computing fields.Mathematics preparation includes calculus, mathematical proof, statistics or probability, and theoretical computing through CS 659. Science requirements include both biological and physical science courses with laboratory components. Students must also complete remaining discovery or general education requirements, ensuring a well-rounded academic experience. Overall, the program balances rigorous technical training with flexibility in advanced study areas, preparing students for both industry roles and further academic research.\
