COURSE CURRICULUM

The Six Studio Track of the Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program at University of Colorado Denver is a 105-credit-hour professional architecture curriculum designed for students who do not already hold a pre-professional degree in architecture. This pathway allows students from other academic backgrounds to complete a professional Master of Architecture degree in a minimum of three years while gaining the foundational and advanced architectural education required for professional practice and licensure. The curriculum is organized into six major academic components that combine design, theory, technology, history, and professional practice. Design Studios and Seminars form the largest portion of the program with 39 semester hours, emphasizing creative problem-solving, architectural design processes, critical thinking, and studio-based project development. Representational Studies, totaling 6 semester hours, focus on visual communication, drawing, modeling, and digital representation techniques essential for architectural design presentation. Historical and Cultural Studies provide 12 semester hours of coursework exploring architectural history, theory, and the cultural and social contexts that shape the built environment. Technological Studies account for 21 semester hours and develop expertise in building systems, structures, materials, environmental systems, and construction technologies used in modern architecture. Professional Studies include 12 semester hours focused on architectural practice, ethics, project management, and professional responsibilities within the field. The curriculum also includes 15 semester hours of electives, allowing students to customize their education based on personal interests and career goals. At least nine elective credits must be completed within the Architecture Department, while summer sessions are encouraged for additional electives, study abroad experiences, or professional internships. The program combines rigorous studio training, technical knowledge, professional preparation, and interdisciplinary learning to prepare graduates for careers in architecture, urban design, sustainable design, and related professional fields.
