COURSE CURRICULUM

The Integrative Biology program at University of Colorado Denver is designed not only to teach biological science but also to help students become stronger thinkers, communicators, and scientists through a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum. Students complete the CU Denver Core Curriculum, which includes studies in English, mathematics, arts and humanities, international and cultural diversity, behavioral sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences, along with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Core that focuses on logic, scientific reasoning, psychology, writing for the sciences, and public health. The Biology core curriculum provides foundational knowledge through subjects such as ecology, genetics, evolution, cell biology, human physiology, organisms to ecosystems, molecules to cells, and biology internships that offer practical experience. Students can further personalize their education by selecting specialized tracks aligned with their interests and career goals. The Integrative Biology track offers broad flexibility for students interested in exploring multiple areas of biology or pursuing careers such as K-12 teaching. The Organisms to Ecosystems track focuses on conservation biology, ecology, wildlife science, and environmental careers connected to agencies, museums, zoos, and consulting organizations. The Biotechnology track develops laboratory and research skills related to medicine, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and climate science. The Microbiology track studies microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and algae while connecting microbiology to medicine, genetics, immunology, ecology, and public health careers. The Human Biology track focuses on the human body and supports careers in healthcare, laboratory research, and public health. Electives and possible foreign language studies provide additional flexibility, allowing students to deepen their interests and broaden their educational experience. Overall, the program combines scientific knowledge, research opportunities, communication skills, and real-world applications to prepare graduates for advanced education and diverse careers in biological, medical, environmental, and health sciences.
