COURSE CURRICULUM

University of Colorado Denver offers a flexible Bachelor of Arts in Economics that allows students to customize their academic experience according to their career goals and interests. The program requires 40 major credit hours and focuses on building a strong understanding of economic theory, statistical analysis, quantitative reasoning, and the practical application of economics in modern society. Students study a variety of specialized subjects including Labor Economics, International Trade, Developing and Transitional Economies, Health Economics, and Money and Banking, helping them understand global markets, financial systems, workforce dynamics, and public policy challenges. The curriculum is designed to equip students with analytical and problem-solving skills that are valuable across industries such as finance, government, consulting, healthcare, research, and business. Students interested in advanced mathematical and statistical applications can pursue a dual degree combining a BA in Economics with a BS in Mathematics, providing deeper expertise in economic modeling and quantitative analysis. Those interested in business and finance can combine the economics degree with a BSBA in Finance through the CU Denver Business School, blending economic theory with practical financial and business knowledge. Students passionate about healthcare policy and economic development also have opportunities to earn a Certificate in Health and Development Economics or continue into the combined BA in Economics and MS in Health Economics pathway. In addition to major requirements, students complete the CU Denver Core Curriculum, which includes studies in English, mathematics, arts and humanities, sciences, and international and cultural diversity perspectives. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences core courses further strengthen skills in logic, scientific reasoning, psychology, public health, and writing for the sciences.
