COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity at University at Albany (UAlbany) offers a comprehensive and career-focused program of study designed to build strong expertise in cybersecurity operations and digital investigation. The program consists of 30–33 credits of coursework completed over two semesters, followed by a 3–6 credit summer internship or thesis where students apply their knowledge to real-world cybersecurity challenges. Flexible study options, including full-time, part-time, and evening classes, make the program accessible to both recent graduates and working professionals.The fall semester introduces core technical skills through courses such as advanced data analysis, system administration, cyber threats and defense, computer forensics, open-source intelligence, and database security. These courses establish a strong foundation in identifying vulnerabilities, analyzing threats, and understanding digital evidence. In the spring semester, students build on this knowledge with more advanced topics including information security analysis, cyber incident analysis, security implementation, penetration testing, SCADA security, cloud security, and cyber law and ethics. This progression ensures students gain both defensive and offensive cybersecurity skills, as well as an understanding of legal and ethical considerations.During the summer, students complete an internship or thesis, gaining hands-on experience in solving real-world cybersecurity problems. The program maintains strong industry connections, with graduates finding opportunities at leading organizations such as Crowe LLP, GreyCastle Security, Kroll, RSM US LLP, Security Risk Advisors, GE Healthcare, General Electric (GE), and Con Edison.
