COURSE CURRICULUM

The MS in Biostatistics at the University at Albany offers a flexible and rigorous curriculum designed to build strong expertise in statistical methods and their application to public health and biomedical research. Students begin with foundational courses such as Introduction to the Theory of Statistics I and II and Methods of Data Analysis I and II, which develop a solid understanding of statistical theory and practical data interpretation. Additional core learning includes Principles of Public Health and Computer Programming and Data Management, ensuring students can apply statistical tools effectively in health-related contexts.To deepen their analytical skills, students select from advanced topics such as Bayesian inference, experimental design, survey methodology, categorical data analysis, or stochastic processes with a biometry focus. These courses allow students to tailor their studies based on career goals and research interests. The program also includes supporting electives, offering up to 12 credits of additional coursework to broaden knowledge in relevant areas. A required master’s seminar in biostatistics further enhances students’ ability to engage with current research, present findings, and collaborate with peers and faculty.For those pursuing the biometry focus, the program incorporates additional coursework in biology, epidemiology, and public health, strengthening interdisciplinary understanding.
