COURSE CURRICULUM

The Epidemiology MPH at University at Albany (UAlbany) offers a flexible and career-focused program of study designed to build strong expertise in public health and epidemiological analysis. The program can be completed fully online in a part-time, asynchronous format, making it especially suitable for working professionals, while maintaining the same academic rigor as the on-campus option.Students begin with core courses that provide a solid foundation in public health, including biological and environmental health, epidemiology, statistics, healthcare systems, social and behavioral health, and professional practice. These courses develop essential knowledge needed to understand how diseases affect populations and how health systems respond to public health challenges.The program then advances into specialized epidemiology training through additional required courses such as Principles and Methods of Epidemiology II, statistical inference, and computer programming for data management and analysis. Students learn to collect, manage, and interpret epidemiological data, select study populations, and effectively communicate research findings. Electives, including advanced 600-level epidemiology courses, allow students to deepen their expertise in specific areas of interest.A key component of the program is the Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), where students produce a comprehensive written project demonstrating their ability to apply public health and epidemiology knowledge. In addition, students complete internships in at least two different professional settings, such as health departments, hospitals, or NGOs. These hands-on experiences often lead to employment opportunities, with many students working on projects like disease tracking, evaluating prevention programs, and analyzing environmental health impacts.Overall, the program equips graduates with strong analytical, research, and practical skills needed to work in public health agencies, research organizations, and healthcare systems, helping to prevent disease and improve community health outcomes.
