COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biostatistics MPH program at University at Albany (UAlbany) offers a comprehensive program of study that blends foundational public health knowledge with advanced data analysis skills. Students begin with core courses that build a strong understanding of essential public health areas, including the biological basis of health, environmental health, epidemiology, healthcare systems, and social and behavioral factors influencing health outcomes. Alongside these subjects, students are introduced to statistical theory, forming the basis for analyzing health-related data. The curriculum is designed to help students investigate the causes and risk factors of diseases and injuries within populations using quantitative methods.In addition to the core curriculum, students complete specialized courses focused on data management, programming, and statistical analysis. These include advanced topics such as methods of data analysis, categorical data analysis, and higher-level statistical theory, which strengthen their ability to work with complex public health datasets. Elective courses allow students to tailor their studies according to personal interests and career goals, offering flexibility within the program.A key component of the program is the Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), where students produce a comprehensive written project that demonstrates their ability to apply both foundational knowledge and specialized biostatistics skills. Furthermore, the program emphasizes practical learning through professional internships in at least two different organizational settings, such as health departments, hospitals, or non-governmental organizations.
