The Biomedical Science Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the University at Albany offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates public health foundations with advanced biomedical science training. Students begin with core courses covering essential areas such as epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, healthcare systems, and the social and behavioral aspects of health. These courses provide a strong understanding of how diseases affect populations and how public health systems respond to them. In addition, students take specialized courses like Biomedical Science Horizons and quantitative or programming-focused classes, which build skills in data analysis and scientific research methods.The program allows students to deepen their expertise through advanced biomedical coursework, choosing from topics such as molecular cell biology, infectious diseases, cancer biology, toxicology, biodefense, and environmental health. This flexibility enables students to tailor their studies to align with specific career interests. Electives further enhance this customization, ensuring a well-rounded and personalized academic experience.A key feature of the program is the Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), where students produce a substantial written project demonstrating their ability to apply both public health and biomedical knowledge to real-world challenges. Equally important are the required professional internships, which must be completed in at least two different organizational settings, such as health departments, hospitals, or non-governmental organizations. These internships provide valuable hands-on experience and often lead to employment opportunities, with many graduates receiving job offers from their placement sites. In some cases, students with prior public health experience may waive part of the internship requirement.
