COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Economics at University at Albany (UAlbany) offers a flexible and focused program of study that can be completed in one year, three semesters of full-time study, or part-time through evening and online classes. The curriculum is designed to strengthen students’ analytical and quantitative skills while providing the opportunity to specialize in key areas of economics that are highly relevant to modern business and public policy.The program begins with core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods, which provide a strong theoretical and analytical foundation. These courses equip students with the tools needed to understand economic behavior, evaluate markets, and apply statistical techniques to real-world economic problems. Building on this foundation, students choose a concentration such as International Economics, Public Economics, Finance and Credit Markets, Health Economics, or Forecasting. Each concentration includes a sequence of specialized courses that allow students to develop in-depth expertise in their chosen area.For students pursuing the forecasting concentration, the program includes either a master’s essay or a seminar in economic forecasting, providing practical experience in predicting economic trends and analyzing data. In addition, students may take up to 9 credits of supporting courses in related fields, further enhancing their interdisciplinary knowledge.Overall, the program combines theoretical rigor, quantitative training, and specialized study to prepare graduates for careers in government, finance, research, and private industry, as well as for further academic pursuits in economics.
