COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University at Albany is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for careers in advanced engineering fields involving both mechanical systems and intelligent automated technologies. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles while integrating mechatronics, which combines electronics, control systems, and computing to develop smart and adaptive machines. Foundational engineering courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Computer-Aided Design and Analysis, Statics, Strength of Materials, and Introduction to Circuits and Electronics provide essential technical knowledge. As the program progresses, students take advanced courses in dynamics, system modeling and analysis, machine design and kinematics, mechatronic systems, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, digital logic, and automatic control systems, allowing them to understand and design complex integrated systems. A strong emphasis is placed on mathematics and science, including calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability, statistics, physics, and chemistry, which support engineering problem-solving and analysis. Students also have the flexibility to select upper-level electives to match their individual interests and career goals. A major component of the program is the two-semester capstone design project, where students work in teams to solve real-world engineering challenges.
