COURSE CURRICULUM

The Atmospheric Science program provides extensive applied learning opportunities that allow students to gain real-world experience and build professional skills alongside their academic studies. With the department colocated with the National Weather Service and the New York State Mesonet, students have direct access to valuable internship opportunities in weather forecasting, data analysis, and environmental monitoring. The university’s location in the state capital further expands opportunities, connecting students with organizations such as the New York State Office of Emergency Management and the Center of Excellence in Atmospheric & Environmental Prediction and Innovation, as well as local television stations where students can gain experience in broadcast meteorology. Beyond internships, students can enhance their global perspective through study abroad programs developed in collaboration with universities in Argentina, Brazil, and Taiwan. The program also encourages participation in academic conferences, where students can present their research, engage with professionals in the field, and develop important networking and communication skills. Overall, these applied learning experiences prepare students for successful careers by combining academic knowledge with hands-on training, professional exposure, and global engagement.
