The Applied Learning Opportunities in this program are designed to provide practical experience, professional exposure, and strong academic support for students pursuing accounting. Through internships in accounting, students can earn academic credit while gaining hands-on experience in real-world settings such as financial services firms, small businesses, government agencies, or nonprofit organizations, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in professional environments. The Ernst & Young Trajectory Program offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world projects within an information technology risk consulting team, where students are mentored by university faculty and professionals from a leading global firm, helping them develop problem-solving and industry-relevant skills. Student engagement is further enhanced through the Albany Accounting Association, a student-led organization that provides mentorship, academic assistance, and skill-building through review sessions, study groups, and workshops, ensuring students are well-prepared for academic and professional success. Additionally, students can join specialized accounting clubs such as the Association of Latino Professionals for America and the National Association of Black Accountants, which focus on career development, networking, and diversity in the accounting profession. High-achieving students have the opportunity to join the Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, an internationally recognized organization that acknowledges excellence in accounting, finance, and information systems among students at accredited institutions.
