COURSE CURRICULUM

The MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics is a comprehensive graduate program that prepares students for professional and research careers in public health through advanced training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems, disease prevention, and data analysis. To graduate, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all coursework, successfully complete comprehensive examinations, and finish an approved internship consisting of three credit hours and 150 fieldwork hours that provides practical experience in real-world public health settings. The 45-hour curriculum includes courses in chronic and infectious disease epidemiology, introductory and advanced biostatistics, health systems, health policy and administration, environmental health, social and behavioral health sciences, research techniques, public health data management, and statistical analysis using the R programming language. Students also complete an Applied Practicum Experience and an Integrated Learning Experience to strengthen professional skills, analytical ability, and applied public health knowledge. The program develops expertise in study design, data interpretation, disease surveillance, statistical modeling, and evidence-based decision-making, preparing graduates for employment in healthcare organizations, research institutions, government agencies, and public health departments. In addition to the standard MPH degree, students may pursue a dual Master’s program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics combined with Anthropology, allowing completion of both degrees simultaneously through a 75-hour curriculum. This interdisciplinary pathway combines public health training with anthropological studies to prepare graduates for careers involving culturally diverse populations and community health challenges. Students gain knowledge in cultural anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, anthropological linguistics, ethnographic research, environmental anthropology, medical anthropology, sociology of health, and related social science areas. The dual-degree structure integrates training in disease epidemiology, public health statistics, social behavior, and cultural analysis, enabling graduates to design and manage health programs that address the specific cultural, social, and behavioral needs of communities. Through its combination of public health sciences, advanced statistical methods, field experience, and interdisciplinary learning, the program equips students with the technical expertise and cultural understanding necessary for leadership roles in healthcare, research, public policy, and community health organizations.
