COURSE CURRICULUM

All these degree plans show one clear pattern: every program at the university has a common General Education Curriculum (GEC) core of writing, science, math, humanities, social sciences, and communication, then each major builds a different “professional identity” on top of it. Geography and Geology are science-heavy and emphasize lab work, field methods, GIS, and physical systems of Earth, with Geology being more mathematically and physically intensive (calculus, chemistry, mineralogy, stratigraphy, and field geology) and Geography focusing more on spatial analysis, GIS, human–environment interaction, and regional studies; Health Sciences sits in the middle, combining biology, anatomy, microbiology, nutrition, psychology, sociology, and statistics as a pipeline into healthcare or nursing-related fields with strong requirements in anatomy and physiology plus multiple supporting social science minors; Healthcare Marketing shifts toward business, sales, analytics, and communication while still including some health-related science courses like anatomy, chemistry, and medical terminology, essentially preparing students for commercial roles in healthcare industries; History (BA and Social Studies Education BA) is humanities-centered, focusing on civilizations, U.S. and world history, research seminars, writing-intensive work, foreign language, and in the education track adds pedagogy, classroom management, and student teaching for licensure; Hospitality and Tourism Management is business-driven with marketing, finance, operations, revenue management, and service industries like hotels, events, casinos, and tourism, combined with business core courses like accounting, economics, MIS, and management. Across all programs, the university structure is consistent: early general education builds communication and analytical skills, while upper-level requirements define the career path, whether that path is scientific research, healthcare systems, education, historical scholarship, or global business and service industries.
