COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine is a pre-professional academic program designed to build a strong foundation in health sciences, human movement, and clinical practice in preparation for advanced graduate study in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, occupational therapy, and physician assistant programs. The curriculum integrates core science coursework, applied sports medicine training, and professional development experiences to ensure students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies related to injury prevention, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and human performance. Students complete structured coursework in areas such as anatomy and physiology, general chemistry, physics, kinesiology, nutrition, sport psychology, and medical terminology, which collectively establish a comprehensive understanding of the human body and its response to physical activity. In addition, students are introduced to healthcare systems and professional practice through courses in emergency medical response, athletic training principles, injury management, and evidence-based practice, along with training in communication, ethics, and health-related decision-making. A key feature of the program is the requirement to complete a minor in a related discipline such as biological sciences, psychology, public health, sociology, sport management, or kinesiology, allowing students to deepen expertise in a complementary field. The program also emphasizes research literacy and analytical skills through coursework in statistics and research methods, preparing students to interpret scientific evidence and apply it in clinical or academic settings. Practical experience is reinforced through capstone and applied learning components, including a senior-level Sports Medicine Capstone course that integrates knowledge gained throughout the program. Upon completion of the 124-credit-hour degree, graduates are well-positioned to pursue competitive graduate programs in healthcare and sports medicine fields, where advanced licensure and certification are required for professional practice.
