COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is a 120-credit degree program designed to provide students with advanced mathematical knowledge, analytical reasoning abilities, and problem-solving skills while allowing flexibility to tailor the curriculum toward specific educational and career goals. The program begins with a broad General Education Curriculum that includes written communication, humanities, social sciences, aesthetic studies, mathematics, communication skills, and natural sciences with laboratories. Students complete writing-intensive, speaking-intensive, and senior capstone requirements through advanced mathematics or technical communication courses such as History of Mathematics, Data Analysis, or Undergraduate Research in Mathematics. The major area of study forms the core of the program and includes a rigorous sequence of advanced mathematics courses beginning with Calculus I, II, III, and IV, followed by Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Modern Algebra, and Real Analysis. Students also complete Problem Solving in Mathematics and choose additional upper-level electives in specialized areas such as numerical analysis, topology, graph theory, combinatorics, geometry, optimization, mathematical modeling, number theory, advanced algebra, real analysis, and partial differential equations. This flexible structure allows students to focus on pure mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, or statistics according to their interests and career plans. The degree also includes a computing requirement through courses in computer science or programming, helping students develop technical and computational skills increasingly important in mathematics-related professions. Calculus readiness is an important part of the program, and placement into higher mathematics courses depends on ACT or SAT mathematics scores or completion of prerequisite math courses.
