COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology (Exercise Science) BS degree is a 120-credit program designed to prepare students for careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, and human performance settings, as well as for advanced study in fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, sports medicine, and related medical and allied health professions. The program combines a strong foundation in general education courses with intensive science-based coursework and specialized training in human movement, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and exercise prescription. Students begin with general education requirements in written communication, natural sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, and communication skills, which build critical thinking, scientific literacy, and professional communication abilities. The natural science component includes laboratory-based courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy, ensuring students develop a strong understanding of the human body and its physiological responses to physical activity. Within the major area of study, students complete core kinesiology courses such as kinesiology principles, exercise testing and prescription, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, nutrition and performance, clinical exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning methods, along with specialized coursework in lifestyle management for chronic disease and exercise psychology. A key feature of the program is hands-on experiential learning through laboratory work and applied practice, including clinical exercise physiology labs and internships that allow students to gain real-world experience in fitness assessment, rehabilitation support, and program design for diverse populations. Additional requirements reinforce foundational knowledge in biology, chemistry, psychology, statistics, and medical terminology to ensure graduates are well-prepared for evidence-based practice and graduate-level study. The program also includes certification preparation for exercise specialist credentials and a culminating internship or capstone experience that integrates classroom knowledge with professional practice. Overall, this degree equips students with both scientific understanding and practical skills needed for careers in fitness training, wellness coaching, rehabilitation support, and preparation for advanced healthcare and exercise science education.
