COURSE CURRICULUM

The Information Technology BS degree (120 hours) is designed to prepare students for careers in system administration, networking, cybersecurity, software development, and IT infrastructure management by combining general education, core computing knowledge, and specialized technical training. The program begins with general education courses in written communication (ENG 101 and ENG 102), natural sciences with lab-based study (such as biology, chemistry, physics, or geology), humanities (including world literature and history courses like HIS 101 or HIS 102), aesthetic values (art, music, theatre, or dance appreciation), social sciences (such as psychology, sociology, economics, or political science), and mathematics (MAT 100, MAT 101, or higher-level math depending on placement). Students also complete writing-intensive coursework such as CSC 309 Cyber Law and Ethics and a speaking-intensive requirement through communication courses like public speaking or professional communication, along with a senior capstone project (ITC 400 Senior Project) that integrates learning into a final applied IT experience. The major curriculum includes foundational computing courses like Computer Science I and II (CSC 101, CSC 102), systems architecture (ITC 102), networking and internetworking technologies (ITC 131, ITC 132), Linux fundamentals (ITC 171), cybersecurity principles (ITC 242), database concepts (ITC 350), human-computer interaction (ITC 361), IT project management (ITC 371), and secure software development (CSC 327). Students then choose electives in two specialization tracks such as cybersecurity (covering information assurance, firewalls, malware analysis), networking (routing, switching, server administration, and Linux), or software development (data structures, algorithms, and software engineering). Additional requirements include advanced math such as calculus or discrete mathematics. Overall, the program emphasizes hands-on technical training aligned with industry certifications and prepares graduates for roles in modern IT environments including cloud systems, enterprise networks, cybersecurity operations, and software engineering roles in global technology-driven industries.
