COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Engineering Technology BS degree is a 120-credit undergraduate program designed to prepare students for careers in architecture, construction, building technology, and design-related industries. The program combines general education studies with highly technical and creative architectural training to help students understand the complete building design and construction process. Students complete courses in communication, humanities, mathematics, sciences, social sciences, technical writing, and public speaking while also developing professional skills in architectural design and engineering technology. The major curriculum focuses heavily on architectural studios, digital graphics, construction materials and methods, architectural sketching, construction documents, structural design, building systems, estimating, scheduling, and building information modeling (BIM). Students also study the history of the built environment, professional practice, and construction law to gain a broader understanding of architecture and construction industries. A strong emphasis is placed on practical learning through architectural studio courses, where students work on real-world design projects from conceptual planning to final construction documentation. The program includes technical subjects such as statics, strengths of materials, mechanical-electrical-plumbing (MEP) systems, and construction planning, helping students build both design creativity and engineering problem-solving skills. An internship course provides industry experience and professional exposure before graduation, while portfolio development courses help students prepare professional presentations of their work. The capstone requirement, Architectural Studio IV, is completed during the senior year and integrates the knowledge and technical skills gained throughout the program. Graduates are prepared for employment in architectural firms, engineering companies, construction businesses, government agencies, real estate development organizations, and building product industries. In addition, many students continue their education by pursuing a NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture degree to work toward becoming licensed architects. Overall, the program offers a balanced combination of architecture, engineering technology, design visualization, and construction management skills for modern building and design careers.
