COURSE CURRICULUM

The Studio Art BFA degree is a 122-credit professional undergraduate program designed to prepare students for advanced careers in visual arts through intensive studio practice, creative exploration, and technical specialization. The program combines general education studies with a highly focused art curriculum that develops artistic skills, historical understanding, creative thinking, and professional studio experience. Students complete courses in communication, humanities, sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and public speaking while also receiving extensive training in drawing, design, painting, ceramics, sculpture, digital design, and art history. The program begins with a strong foundations core that includes drawing, two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, helping students build essential artistic and technical skills. Students then complete common core studio courses such as figure drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, art history, and design software to gain broad exposure to different artistic disciplines. After the core curriculum, students choose a specialized studio track in Ceramics, Painting, or Sculpture, where they complete advanced sequence courses to strengthen mastery in their chosen medium. In addition to specialization, students complete a wide variety of studio art electives, allowing them to explore areas such as printmaking, illustration, photography, graphic design, bookmaking, and advanced studio practices. The curriculum also includes upper-level art history courses, with at least one writing-intensive course, helping students connect practical artistic work with historical, cultural, and theoretical understanding. During the senior year, students complete a capstone project in painting, ceramics, sculpture, or interdisciplinary art, demonstrating the technical abilities, creative vision, and professional development achieved throughout the program. The Studio Art BFA is more intensive and professionally focused than a traditional BA degree, making it especially suitable for students seeking careers as professional artists, sculptors, painters, ceramic artists, gallery professionals, illustrators, designers, or art educators. It also provides excellent preparation for graduate-level Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs and other advanced studies in visual arts and creative disciplines.
