COURSE CURRICULUM

knowledge of government, law, international relations, and political systems while developing critical reading, analytical thinking, research ability, and argumentative writing skills; students complete general education courses in writing, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and mathematics along with major-specific coursework such as American government, political theory, global politics, public law, and research methods, culminating in a senior capstone seminar (PS 491) that integrates learning through advanced political analysis and research. The degree is particularly valuable for students aiming for careers in law, public administration, civil services (such as UPSC or other government exams), policy analysis, diplomacy, journalism, or academic research, and it also provides a strong foundation for law school through accelerated pathways that may reduce time to earn a Juris Doctor. Students must also complete electives across social sciences and humanities, plus a minor and foreign language requirement, which broadens interdisciplinary understanding and communication skills. The program emphasizes four main areas of political science—political theory, American politics, global/international politics, and public law/administration—ensuring balanced exposure to both domestic and global political systems. Compared to highly technical degrees like physics, political science is less mathematically intensive and more focused on conceptual reasoning, reading comprehension, and written communication, making it accessible to students with strong interest in society, governance, and law rather than quantitative science. However, career success typically depends on further qualifications such as law school, civil service exam preparation, or postgraduate study, since a bachelor’s degree alone may not guarantee high-paying jobs.
