COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Religion, and Law BA degree is a flexible interdisciplinary program that combines philosophy, ethics, religion, law, political thought, critical thinking, and communication skills to prepare students for careers requiring strong reasoning and analytical abilities. The 120-hour curriculum includes general education courses in writing, humanities, science, social sciences, mathematics, communication, and public speaking, while the major focuses heavily on philosophy, religion, ethics, and legal studies. Core foundation courses include Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics and Good Living, Comparative Religion, and either Logic or Critical Thinking, helping students develop advanced reasoning, ethical analysis, argumentative writing, and decision-making abilities. Students then complete advanced upper-level philosophy and religious studies courses along with specialized law-preparation subjects such as Philosophy of Law, Political Philosophy, Health Care Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Research Ethics, and Contemporary Moral Issues. A major strength of the program is its guided pathways that allow students to specialize in Religion and World Cultures, Ethics, or Philosophy and Law depending on career goals. The Philosophy and Law pathway is especially valuable for students preparing for law school because it includes constitutional law, jurisprudence, civil liberties, and legal philosophy courses that strengthen LSAT preparation and legal reasoning skills. Students also complete a senior capstone course called Philosophical Discourse, advanced humanities or social science electives, and a world language requirement that improves global and cultural understanding. Compared to science or engineering degrees, this program has lighter mathematics and laboratory requirements and focuses more on reading, research, writing, debate, ethics, legal analysis, and communication. Graduates are prepared for careers in law, public policy, public administration, ethics consulting, communication, education, nonprofit organizations, religious leadership, human resources, government, and business management. The degree is especially suitable for students who enjoy discussion, critical thinking, social issues, philosophy, law, ethics, writing, and understanding human culture and society.
